Hippie CEO Life #51 - Crafting a Business with a Purpose
A behind the scenes view of building a more humanistic company.
March 31, 2023
“The companies that are emerging as leaders in the new economy are truly redesigning every aspect of their business around purpose.”
~Aaron Hurst, author of “The Purpose Economy”
In today's world, the definition of success is often twisted and distorted by the flashy images we see on social media. It seems as if the only way to be considered successful is to achieve rapid growth, internet celebrity status, massive profits, and accumulate material possessions like fancy cars and giant houses. But is this really the essence of true success?
At 33 Sticks, we have been on a 10-year journey that has shown us that success doesn't have to follow this superficial mold. Success can be about so much more than worldly gains; it's about building a business you can be proud of and that aligns with your values.
In our eyes, a successful business is one that:
Is honest and transparent with its employees, customers, and stakeholders.
Holds strong ethical values at its core.
Provides an oasis for employees to escape the toxicity often found in the corporate world.
Cares deeply about the customer and their experiences.
Aims to inspire people and change lives in a positive way.
Perhaps it's time for us to redefine success, especially in the world of business. At 33 Sticks, we may never become a "big business" or achieve wealth by the world's financial benchmarks, but that doesn't mean we're not successful. By choosing to create a business that fosters a positive environment, we believe that we're cultivating something incredibly valuable.
What would the world look like, for all of us, if we truly celebrated businesses that prioritize honesty, transparency, ethical values, employee well-being, and customer care?
It’s important to remember that success isn't just about what you achieve; it's about the impact you make and the lives you touch, along the way — it’s about what you inspire others to do.
In my sappy, hippy way, i truly believe that together, we can create a better world, one ethical and purpose-driven business at a time.

Jason,
I can see you list of reasons why 33 Sticks is special and I humbly believe every one of of them is very accurate.
The other thing is, for example, the flashy images parts. I directly posted me up on stage with the cast of Whose Live Anywyws due to the fact I set my mind to get up there.
It was incredible to me to find the power within myself to do that. The story behind why they mean so much to me is a bit long and deep.
For me, it gave me a sense of fun and playfulness in my home as a child that really rang on through the echos of other things in my life. I do improv now hugely because of what I did before which all links back to that show. The interactions with friends and family through the years sometimes csme from me mocking the improv games. For example, Questions directly with my daughter created a lot of hilarious stories.
It isnmore than just something flashy and perhaps now I will do a video and tell this story.
